John W. Meyer's Background:
John W. Meyer was a WWII army enlisted artilleryman, and he was captured in the Battle of the Bulge. At first, he was MIA and later a POW until the end of the war when his camp was liberated. During his imprisonment there was a dogfight over the camp. He said everyone dove for cover, but his left hand was mangled by the stray round that killed the person on top of him. After the war he was a professional engineer specializing in grain mills. He was an avid skier, hiker and naturalist, and an aficionado of military history, technology and geology as exhibited by his extensive DVD collection. He died in 2017 at the age of 92.
