Mission: Anti-ship missile capable of long-range, low-altitude launch.

-Accurate, precision guided missile.

-Launch aircraft: A-6E Intruder, A-7 Corsair II, and F/A-18.

Early 1980s: Designed by China Lake using off-the-shelf components.

-GBU-16/B Paveway II LGB (Laser-Guided Bomb),

- 1000 lb. MK 83 bomb,

- MXU-667/B airfoil group,

- MAU-169/B guidance section,

- Shrike AGM-45B rocket motor.

Bang-bang guidance made missile flight bounce up and down above the water resembling a skipping stone.

-Nicknamed "Skipper,"

March 1985: Full-scale production of 2500 Skippers by Emerson Electric.
